Book Review: The Art of Racing in the Rain

Do you ever feel like your dog knows you better than your spouse does? Well, it's true. And he probably even knows you better than you know yourself.

This completely charming little book tells the tale of a young family in the first person, but the narrator's voice is that of Enzo, the wise family pooch. The artfully interwoven themes layer this quick read with an impressive depth, and it's author, Garth Stein, knows how to artfully build anticipation and how to tug at the heart strings without you feeling that you've been manipulated.

Along the way you will learn of the dangers of crows and that we actually choose to host the evil zebra that lives within each of us. You will learn a fair bit about race car driving and how it is a metaphor for your approach to the world. And you will close the book wondering why we over-complicate our lives and our personal relationships when we have walking obediently at our sides the best role models for both directness and enjoyment of the here and now.

Sit. Stay. Read it.
Good Dog.
